Most mods did not play Dofus at all when they became GM's. Infact there was only one Dofus player ever choosen to become a GM.

Im quite positive that the GM (Game Masters) of dofus are either extremely VIP or they are actually staff at Ankama-Games

Well... You got moderators and GM's, Moderators are for banning people who advertice for site's etc. and GM's sometime's show up around dofus but they can also be invicible and they check the all the chats like trade, recruiting, newbie's channel etc. (except for the guild channel, that would be impossible). And to answer you're question, you don't need to be lvl 200, you need to speak good French, German and Englisch, and you have to be lucky to be chosen by Ankama-Games. this is dofus' explanation of moderators and what they can do :

The moderating team is in charge of maintaining the atmosphere of the
game and the forums pleasant. Moderators are volunteer players to whom
ANKAMA gave its trust together with tools to keep the game as friendly
as possible. Moderators are NOT support employees and do not have
the mission to severely sanction the players. Their role is to take
preventive action with the players making them aware of the risks
they take if they do not respect the rules of DOFUS, so that
they do not get sanctioned.
To maintain a nice in-game atmosphere, moderators have a few
tools at their disposal. Please read the following
general presentation of the latter.

MUTE When the flood (abusive in-game repetition of a message) or
off-charter remarks can no longer be handled, moderators can
prevent players from talking. The "mute" option can be applied
to a map or to a chosen channel for a variable length. But this
is a last resort solution when it gets impossible to moderate
each player individually.

JAIL OF THE MODERATORS In some cases, moderators may need to isolate a player from the rest of the community while they settle a matter. They can teleport the said player in the DOFUS jail. There, the player will have all the time he'll need to think about his behaviour.

KICK Kicking a player will disconnect the latter. Moderators can also use the kick to unblock a player when there's a bug.

30-MINUTE SUSPENSION The 30-minute suspension can be applied by a moderator or a game master to temporarily suspend a player. This suspension is quite useful to prevent players from disturbing an animation and harassing the game master, for instance.

6-HOUR SUSPENSION The 6-hour suspension will give time to the insulting or flooding player to think about the gravity of his behaviour. Moderators can use it to warn players and protect other players from off-charter behaviours.

24-HOUR SUSPENSION The 24-hour suspension is the most important sanction that moderators have at their disposal. This sanction is used for rare and extremely serious matters. For instance, it can be used to block an account suspected to have been stolen, while the support team takes care of it.

The GMs are in no way affiliated with Ankama, and aren't payed for their jobs either. They volunteer.

Every now and then, you might see a recruitment sign placed, wanting more Moderators and GMs. If you were hoping to become one, you will need a good command of the English language, and you need to have a good sense of judgment -- as a starting base.

Though, the English community no longer has a manager, and we probably won't receive one for quite some time; however when we do, I suspect that a recruitment sign for Moderators and GMs will be put out. smile.gif

yeah, that manager got paid pretty well, then he up and quit, had a chat once in-game (the day he quit) about it and i never quite understood why he quit... fairly good pay by French standards I understand... was a both bad and good day for US servers...
BAD: we have no manager, thus our servers will rot and start to suck more each day...
GOOD: people like us who take advantage of the BAD part profit well from it...

Actually, I believe the manager was a lady. laugh.gif

I also spoke to her on MSN many times. She was quite nice, but I believe she fell ill and had to quit her job. She apparently won't be back for a long time, and now we have to wait for a new one.

Heh, profiting at the expense of others is the only type of profit. Anything else just isn't fun. smile.gif

who became a GM?

one of the first FRENCH players... probably someone who Ankama or the French manager knew in person or had talked with quite a lot. They do make actual recruitements for mods, but GameMasters are usually someone somehow affiliated to Ankama by some standard. be it by working for them or knowing them really well, they have to have a system of pre-established trust and know you mean good for the game...

I'm quite sure that after a Moderator has served Ankama for long enough, they are given the option of taking up the role of GM too. There are some suspicions that [MOD]Wish is also [GM]Shashel. This isn't confirmed, though.

I haven't heard these rumors, but it would be likely since they trusted wish to do more than he should have in the Goultarminator...

back off topic with the International/UK manager: we have one now, check one of the internation "Dofus" home pages and the newest message should be about ur new manager...
