Those vines respawn. As you work your way around the room, by the time you're dealing with the last patch, it's not uncommon for the first lot you took out to reappear. This can get very frustrating, as you've been constantly fighting, your End may be a bit low, and for the target number to jump from 6 to 22 in the space of a few moments is really disheartening. I don't mention tanking the AV, or any of the other things that need to be done. This is just about how to defeat the vines.
What's happening, then? The vines in the room are in patches of something like 8-10. Once all of the vines in a patch are defeated, that patch's respawn timer starts, and unless you can clear the rest of the number you need before the first patch you hit has reached the end of its timer, you have a problem.
The solution? It's a rather elegant resolution to the problem, really. You sweep the room 3 times. Here's how.
3 Passes 1 Clear the CoT. Ignore the vines, avoid the AV. Just wipe out all the CoT in the room. Easy.
2 Hurt, don't kill. Sweep the room, damaging as many vines as you can down to about 25% health or lower. Don't worry about killing the odd one or two, but try not to kill an entire patch. If the entire patch isn't killed, the respawn timer doesn't start for that patch.
3 Clean up. Sweep the room, killing the already damaged vines. Because they are already low on health (their regen may have pushed some of them back over 50%, but that doesn't matter), you can defeat patches considerably faster, enabling you to easily defeat the requisite number before the respawn counter for the first patch you finished off in this pass has counted down.
