Hey everyone. So, I'm a newborn DK intent on learning the class mechanics so that I don't look like a new player just randomly clicking buttons when I play. I'm currently leaning towards unholy with some frost and blood thrown in, because as a melee caster, I think DKs benefit from having a bit of everything from their trees. I still have my start-up blues in the bank for gear, though just outfitted myself with the full Darkscale regalia for a change, and as unholy, have found some benefit from the typical "caster" stats some of those pieces offer.

I've started to read DK blogs and info sites, have tested builds and gear on my own, but am asking the community this:

If you could give me only two pointers for mastering the DK class, what would they be?

(I should note that my main toon is a Warlock, and I've also got an 80 hunter. I like casting, I like ranged, and I like pets as much as I enjoy melee combat.)

Thanks for your insight. I look forward to your responses.

In my experience i don't like Unholy DK's. why do so many ppl chose them?
I prefer blood speccd DK's, then frost, then unholy. And for lvling i would use this specc.

And when u hit lvl 80, prolly respeccd to what u seems fit u.

he is right
Btw if you noticed you can see that all classes talents are similar
protection combat mixed
a good example is a paladin anyway you can choose what you want your character to be

I went frost/unholy for tankin dont remember if i had a lil blood in or not. but i wouldnt follow that talent. the only class that really should have one spec filled like that is a paladin.. If you want dps go more on a unholy and mix with blood and such.. always use a 2handed wep... dont understand why people would dual-wield anymore.

Thanks for your replies. I do use 2 handed weapons exclusively. I admit, I like the "looks" of dual-wield, but get better DPS with a two-hander. As for "why the unholy tree? -- it fits me. I like the use of spells (my caster sneaking in) and a permanent pet (my hunter's influence). I am doing decent damage for my level and gear, and the addition of a bit of frost and blood have helped that greatly. Thanks for referring me to paladins as another example to look at. I appreciate it!

Good Gaming everyone!

I know this technically isn't advice on the DK class, but I've found the best way to really learn the ropes, other than blogs etc, is to literally ask someone in your guild who is a DK to give you some pointers. When i first started my hunter, a friend i had made in game, who was also a hunter, taught me a lot of basic techniques about PvP and PvEing efficiently. It got me real advice and I saw it in motion (he taught me by dueling and then critiquing me) and I learned my class really quickly that way.
