well what you can do is download the game, (the download's free) and try changing the realmlist to a private server to try it for free. google it if you need help, or just continue asking=)
If you want to know what the game is like, I'd recommend the trial. Jumping into a private server when you've never even played before is very confusing, as in most cases you end up skipping most quests and leveling normally which allow you to properly learn the game.

Oh you're right tsincaat, i never thought about that. Do what he said, or try a Blizzlike private server (that's a server like blizzards, not a "fun" one)

I'd say it is, It is a fun game. I've played since 2005, and I'm still playing. The first levels are a bit boring, but once you get past that you can do dungeons, join guilds, and many other things. I wouldn' t reccomend going to a private server right off the bat, because even though me and telazile are on a private server, we both have retail accounts too.

Have to agree, the trial is the best way to test out the game for yourself. I love my WoW time. While I'm a "casual" player, I take the game seriously and protect my "screen time" fiercely in my day to day life. I've enjoyed the community I've found through guilds and forums, enjoy the BG and 1 on 1 PVP achievements (I've not done areas or raids yet...still learning), and I think the cost is worth it, just like any other hobby.
I design jewelery, and after a day of dealing with custom requests that change at the last second, or orders that are suddenly cancelled with no explanation, it gives me great pleasure to quest and kill for a while.
Not sure if you're looking at Horde or Alliance, or what realms, but I have toons in both factions and on two servers. If you decide it's worth it and want to play together, PM me and I'll give you my info. One can always use more friends!
