FYI
Most big games IE Everquest and WOW are written in several languages
Their main engine is almost always in ANSI C running on a UNIX server
There clients are almost always in C and C++
Most game now a days consist on hundreds of different fields
Story tellers, artists, modelers, programmers, musicians, voice creators and such.
I live very close to Blizzard and confer with some of the lower level programmers
I have met at some of the local events over the years.
It would be cool to work for wow or everquest you think?? LOL
If you like stress, long hours, low pay for the first ten years until you get
to manage a project, then the hours go up, the stress goes up.
Anyway, thought I would drop this to help ya.
School > Programming, IT, Integration, Unix, Model Design, Animation
All these will open the door for ya,
Good luck

I'm learning at school atm.
Learning Software, Hardware, Hacking, Legal Copying, clocking (i believe it's called on English, not sure) etc.

Kinda cool. Only school on miles so is teaching exactly that. Believe there are around 5 school in my country teaching this.

a good start for animation would be a free program like easytoon(if you like to do freehand drawing) or Pivot(similar to tweening animations).

Then move onto flash, you'll have an understanding of what you're doing, and the features wont overwhelm you.
Flash offers the ability to make moving objects without frames on the main timeline, these objects can be programed to move around when you use the keyboard in the fashion you program them. However, since a repeating movement wouldn't look right unless it was a solid object, you can have multiple objects inside of the main object and have them all programed to react to the keyboard.

it's not complicated, just start with one of the smaller programs I mentioned.

I would recommend starting big. You can't jump very high with a small trampoline. Jump right into Ogre or another free 3D game engine, and go from there. It's easier than you think. A little prior programming knowledge helps though. wink.gif

True That all the Big Games like WoW and GW and RS have 100s of people working for them but you can still make 3D games that people will play by yourself, If you know how to you can make a 3D MMORPG Like Guild Wars or WoW. I have a buddy in Russia that speaks english and hosts games that are 3D and feel like Guild Wars and WoW. Hes very good at it. He has 2 right now, All the bugs known are worked out and it can hold up to 50,000 people at once per server, only like 20 play but still, the graphics arn't the best(not bad but not good) but he specializes in codes more then graphics.
