This should work, works fine for me.
1. Make a /Logout macro
2. Click the macro
3. Jump Forward (W+Space Bar, not Space bar then W)
4. You will float in mid-air
5. To get lower, press Escape, Space bar, then the macro, sort of fast
(Haven't tested this for awhile, Blizzard may have fixed it)
--OR--
Damage From Flying Mount
When you're on your flying mount (regardless of how high up from the ground you are) and there is an enemy Horde/ Alliance within Charging distance you can dismount midair and start spamming your charge button, when you do this you'll just slowly float towards the ground and your health will stay the same.
